Week 4

“God loves you!” she said, throwing both hands in the air. “I love you because God loves everybody!” This may sound small, but I decided that was not enough for me. I did not want to be loved in general. I wanted to be loved in particular, as I was convinced God loved. Plus, I am not sure it is possible to see the face of God in other people if you cannot see the faces they already have. Barbara Brown Taylor

From Series: "Boundless Love"

The love of God . . . is a bottomless, boundless, endless ocean, that swallows up our finitude in its infinite depths, that buries all our shallowness, that ever flows in its tidal ebb, and with its limitless life supplies all our needs, until it has transformed its beloved objects into its own image according to our creature-capacities, until it has washed all guilt out of us, and all healing into us; until it has freed us from all death and suffering, and raised us into itself as a portion of the Divine. Then, this Divine Love will be to us, a well of mercy, an infinite ocean of joy and beauty, where we will live, and bathe, and dive to the praise of the beauty of Divine love to the endless depths of all eternity. Anne Dutton (18th century)
