with Dylan Cumberland

One Saturday Morning a Month | The Anchor House | $40 | Registration is Closed

An introduction to the historical and practical aspects of contemplative prayer.

Abraham Joshua Heschel once called prayer “our humble answer to the inconceivable surprise of living.” In this class we will use the lives of saints and mystics from the past to explore the prayer practices they are most associated with.

Everything Belongs

Each class will run from 9:00am – 10:00am followed by an optional free time to explore the practices at The Anchor House till Noon on the following dates.

  • August 23
  • September 27
  • October 18
  • November 22

Join us for this four-week class as we discuss:

  • Visio Divina
  • Lectio Divina
  • Imaginative Prayer
  • Ora et Labora (work as prayer)

What to Expect:

The class will begin with an overview of the life, theology, and legacy of a particular saint or mystic and then delve into the practical and spiritual aspect of a type of prayer associated with them. Following a time for questions and further discussion, the Anchor House will remain open until noon to allow for further exploration of the prayer practice.

You might be interested in this class if you’ve ever been curious about different forms of contemplative prayer or if you’d like to know more about the historical context of contemplative practice.
