“Lift up your heart to God with a meek stirring of love… with a sharp dart of longing love.” (The Cloud of Unknowing, 14th century)
Our aim this year is “Anchored in the Center.” One contemplative practice that helps us anchor our being in the Divine Center is the practice of Centering Prayer. This is a key method that The Center offers and teaches. On this Valentine’s Day, join us for an introduction to the practice of Centering Prayer, a way to do what the The Cloud of Unknowing calls “the contemplative work of love.” At the start if this retreat, Michael will offer an introduction to the history of Centering Prayer as well as instructions on how to practice Centering Prayer.
There will be 3 twenty-minute sessions of Centering Prayer: one after the introduction, one before lunch, and one to close our time together. Participants will be given a booklet of key texts from the contemplative Christian tradition that relate to the practice of Centering Prayer. There will be a shared meal (in silence), time for personal prayer and reflection, opportunity for walking the labyrinth, and optional sharing at the end of the day. This retreat is appropriate for anyone, whether you have never tried this form of prayer or are a longtime Centering Prayer practitioner.
The cost of the retreat is $35 and includes the price of lunch. We don’t want anyone to miss out because of pricing. Contact Haley for information on scholarships at hbrown@chapelwood.org.
